Ravens Add Line Help with Pickup of Slaughter
Posted by Matt Loede on July 30th, 2008 filed in NewsThe Baltimore Sun is reporting that the Ravens have signed six-year veteran Chad Slaughter to a one-year contract. The O-lineman will add depth to a line that has already had some injuries. The team tried to come to terms with lineman with John Welbourn, a four-year starter for the Chiefs, but nothing could be reached. The paper is reporting that Welbourn sat in the team hotel for hours as the sides tried to agree to a contract, and Welbourn walked away from a one-year deal worth the NFL minimum. Slaughter can play on either side of the line, and is a big boy at 6-8, 340 pounds. “I think they were looking to find someone with experience,” said Angelo Wright, Slaughter’s agent.

They offered Welbourn one-year for the league minimum, and this took hours of negotiations? That’s the lowest offer possible! Someone needs to teach the Ravens how to negotiate.
