Flacco Could be Last Man Standing in QB Battle

Ever since the Ravens said that they would have an open competition for the quarterback spot everyone had an opinion. I think even I flip-flopped at least twice. Kyle Boller has the most NFL experience, he may not be the future but he gives the team the best chance to win now.
Troy Smith is called by some a natural leader and can make plays with his legs. He could really help out the young line as start to work together. Joe Flacco is the future. He has a solid arm and good size and if the team is rebuilding, why not let the number one draft pick take the helm?
So with the last preseason contest two days away, who will it be? Joe Flacco looks to be the unlikely survivor and not because he?s performed exceptionally well. Instead he is the only candidate still healthy.
This competition has a taken a few bizarre turns in the past week. Troy Smith is still out with what is being called a viral infection of his tonsils. He has had trouble keeping fluids down and only went to meetings today and did not practice. The staff is still hopeful that he will play Thursday against Atlanta.
Boller threw short passes today and grabbed his shoulder after each toss. He is expected to take a MRI soon and it may reveal a more serious problem. So that leaves Flacco. He threw the team?s first touchdown pass of the preseason last week and had an uneven performance overall, not unlike the Ravens other options.
So we just need to wait and see but it looks like the Ravens future might be now.

The Ravens should open their checkbook and sign Daunte Culpepper to a starter QB contract and put QB Kyle Boller on the IRL. Then plan on starting QB Troy Smith at home against Cincinnati for the regular season opener but start Daunte Culpepper ASAP. This seems to be the perfect marriage - Daunte Culpepper wants a starting QB job and the Ravens do not have a QB worthy of starting now.
