Ravens Need to Learn from Letdown at the Meadowlands

It was a pretty big wake up call for the Ravens run D on Sunday, as the Giants used their three-back attack to pile on the yards as they beat up the Ravens 30-10 at the Meadowlands on Sunday afternoon. From Brandon Jacobs running over Ray Lewis, to Ahamd Bradshaw doing some niffty moves that left the run defense in the dust, it was a pretty much start to finish domination for the G-Men.
207 yards on the ground, by far the most given up this year by the Ravens, but also the third most in the 13-year history of the team. It was the most given up by the Ravens since the Steelers ran for 214 yards back on October 5th, 1997. “Am I embarrassed?” linebacker-defensive end Terrell Suggs said. “Definitely.”
Though it was an ugly outing, the team should not feel all that bad. The 9-1 Giants have run on everyone this season, and if nothing else, it’s a time for the team to go back to the drawing board to see exactly what they did wrong, and what they can do to improve on it.
“It was a thumping. It’s the biggest thumping I’ve been a part of for a long time,” defensive end Trevor Pryce said. “Even the Indianapolis game didn’t feel like this one.” And while it was the worst loss of the season in that regard, the team should not get too down about it. Let’s face it, every game from now till the end of the year is a must win, and they have to treat them as such, and simply learn from the mistakes of yesterday.

Some reasons for the letdown;
1) They played three road games in a row. Doesn’t seem like a big deal. But; Of the last 90 teams that have tried only 5 have ever done it.
2) Undisciplined play. This was in stark contrast to the Giants defense. 9 first half penalties (many were offsides penalties)and poor, poor tackling and overpursuit. The Giants stayed in their gaps and just made plays. Too many players trying to make “big” plays instead of just making plays.
3) The Giants are good. Excellent line play on both sides is the key. Doesn’t the Titans have the same?
